Lady Freethinker’s grant to a Berlin-based nonprofit helping people and pets fleeing from war-torn Ukraine has helped cover additional needed vet care, paperwork, food and supplies.

Linda Hüttmann, a volunteer with the Berliner Tiertafel e.V. who handled LFT’s grant, said in a May update that LFT’s $10,000 grant has been spent on the refugee aid program, which started in March, and also received funds from the Humane Society International-Deutschland and nonprofit Welttierschutzgesellschaft – WTG e.V.

To date, the pool of funding has helped 220 pet guardians who have attended BT’s donation distribution for pet food, bowls, beds, leashes, and other accessories, as well as vet consultation hours, and BT has issued 157 voucher reimbursements for services.

The need of the Ukrainian people and their pets remains very high, she added.

“The gratitude of the people is really great,” Hüttmann told LFT via email. “For our volunteers and the veterinarians, the work is very emotional. But we are very happy that we can help the people and their animals.”

We again thank our generous supporters and donors, who made this grant possible. Your caring action has helped make a difference in the lives of these refugees and their innocent companion animals!

Here are some photos of the additional animals that the grant helped!
