A tiny black kitten rescued from a car’s wheel well in Sandy Springs, Georgia, has found a home with the vehicle’s owners, according to local news.

Nicole Motahari and her husband, Brandon Lou, were on their way to work when another driver honked to warn them that a cat was hanging beneath their car.

The couple stopped to search the vehicle but could not find the animal. As they continued toward their destination, faint meows from the front right side of the car helped them locate him in the wheel well.

Freeing the tiny stowaway wasn’t easy and required the combined efforts of three firefighters and two police officers. Once they got him out safely, Motahari and Lou took him straight to a veterinarian, where they learned he was about 6 weeks old and weighed just 1.2 pounds.

“Naturally, after all that excitement, we couldn’t exactly send him on his way,” Motahari told Rough Draft. “So now we have a kitten.”

Now named Friday Shadow, he is settling into his new home, spending his days cuddling and seeking the couple’s attention.

His rescue is a reminder to check beneath your car and around the wheels before starting the engine, especially in cold weather, when cats and other animals may seek shelter there. If you spot an animal out of reach or hear meowing, keep the engine off and seek help.

Lady Freethinker thanks everyone who helped bring Friday Shadow to safety and the couple who welcomed him into their home.
