Petition Target: Pakistan’s Animal Husbandry Commissioner
Highly intelligent, sensitive donkeys are set to be slaughtered for their skin and meat in numbers as high as 800 per day in Pakistani processing facilities intended for Chinese markets, according to FirstPost.
An estimated 6 million donkeys are killed each year to meet the demand for ejiao, the collagen found in their hides, which is a traditional Chinese medicine ingredient. Pakistan’s total population of donkeys is only estimated to be 4.8 million. Ejiao was previously sourced from Africa, but the rapidly declining donkey population forced a continent-wide moratorium on killing donkeys for their skins by the African Union.
We are calling on Pakistan’s Animal Husbandry Commissioner to follow in the footsteps of the African Union and pass a ban on the killing of donkeys for the use of their skins.
Sign our petition to urge the Commissioner to stop the slaughter, sparing countless lives and needless suffering of intelligent animals.
