Wyoming Ends Gas Chamber Use in Shelters
The last two U.S. animal shelters still using gas chambers — both located in Wyoming — have permanently ended this cruel practice. Shelter animals will no longer be killed using this agonizing, outdated method, sparing countless cats and dogs from needless suffering. Thank you to the more than 36,000 Lady Freethinker supporters who signed our petition urging an end to gas chambers in U.S. shelters.

California Bans Cat Declawing
California has officially outlawed the declawing of cats for cosmetic or convenience reasons, following similar bans in New York and Maryland. Declawing involves amputating the last bones of a cat’s toes and severing tendons — a painful procedure long opposed by veterinarians and animal advocates. We are grateful for the voices of over 31,000 supporters who signed our petition urging that cats across California be protected from this inhumane practice.

Wolverines Gain Federal Protections
Human-caused threats such as habitat loss, deadly trapping, and decreased snowpack were causing wolverine populations to dwindle to frightening numbers. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service designated wolverines as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, providing them much-need federal protections. We appreciate the nearly 31,000 supporters who signed our petition advocating for these at-risk animals.

Justice for Greyhounds Left to Die
Two greyhounds suffered horrific deaths after being locked inside a metal bike locker at an Australian train station, where they succumbed to extreme heat and suffocation. Following public outrage, the individual responsible was sentenced to five years in prison and received a lifetime ban on owning animals — an important step toward accountability for this brutal act of cruelty. Huge thanks for the support from the 35,000 petition signers demanding justice for these innocent dogs.

U.K. Bans Imports of Mutilated Puppies and Kittens
The United Kingdom has banned the importation of dogs and cats who have been subjected to cruel mutilations such as tail docking, ear cropping, and declawing. These animals were often bred abroad and sold despite suffering painful procedures. This new law puts animal health and welfare first and shuts down a pipeline of cruelty. We appreciate the support of the more than 36,000 Lady Freethinker advocates who signed the petition to ban this cruel practice.
