PETITION TARGET: Members of Parliament in the UK – House of Commons, House of Lords
Weeks-old puppies are having their ears and tails mutilated and being imported into Great Britain to be sold. Kittens are being forced to experience painful declawing surgeries and are being brought into the country ill and while far too young. Ferrets are also suffering inhumane conditions from smugglers looking to profit from the innocent animals.
The numbers of weeks-old puppies, kittens, and ferrets being brought into the UK with health concerns has been on the rise since 2020. These young animals are usually taken from their mothers too early — causing both physical and emotional damage that may impact the animals for the rest of their lives.
Recently introduced legislation could prevent this senseless suffering by banning the import of declawed kittens and puppies with docked tails or cropped ears. Additionally, the bill would prohibit the import of puppies, kittens, and ferrets younger than 6 months old.
The Animal Welfare (Importation for Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill, if passed, would also ban the import of dogs who are more than 42 days pregnant — closing a possible loophole for smugglers.
Puppies, kittens, and ferrets deserve to be protected from painful cosmetic surgeries and other cruel conditions.
Sign our petition urging Members of Parliament to pass the Animal Welfare (Importation for Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill to better protect puppies and other animals from mutilation and smuggling.
