After a chipmunk became caught in a glue trap at a business in Jefferson County, Colorado, a kind-hearted animal control officer stepped in to save the day, according to local news.
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Rupe lifted the trap from the ground and saw the chipmunk frantically fighting to free themself from the sticky adhesive.
“I know,” the officer said. “I’ll get you out of there.”
She then removed the chipmunk from the cage, applied mineral oil to the area where they were stuck, and eventually freed the animal from the glue trap.
After gently cleaning them off with cotton balls, she brought the critter to a nearby tree and released them, watching as they quickly scurried away.
“Glue traps might seem like an easy solution, but they can cause a lot of harm to pets and wildlife, not just pests,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post. “If you are looking to remove unwanted guests, search for more humane options.”
Lady Freethinker is grateful to Officer Rupe for her compassion and gentle, thorough rescue — and we echo the call to choose humane solutions that protect all animals.
