After a car struck Fox in Sri Lanka’s Kurunegala District, the impact tore into her tiny body, leaving her wounded and unable to stand on her own. But, thanks to Lady Freethinker supporters, Fox received the emergency rescue and care she needed.

The collision paralyzed Fox’s hind legs. She could move only by pulling herself forward with her front legs. Despite her serious injuries, Fox survived and received treatment from a local veterinarian. However, two pressure wounds near her pelvis still required continued care. She also needed safe shelter and help with her mobility.

Fox Finds Safety and Lifelong Care

Baw Baw Animal Welfare rescued Fox and took her under their protection. The organization ensured that she would not be returned to the streets and provided her with a safe place to recover.

Lady Freethinker supporters helped make Fox’s care possible. Their donations funded a grant through the 2025 Urgent Need Fund that supported her rescue, veterinary treatment, shelter, and ongoing care.

Fox Did Heal!

Fox’s wounds took time to mend, but they eventually closed completely, leaving only visible scars.

Although Fox remains unable to use her hind legs, she is active, happy, and doing well at the sanctuary. She requires specialized, ongoing care and will remain under Baw Baw’s protection where caregivers assist with her mobility and daily needs.

Helping Dogs Across Sri Lanka

The same 2025 UNF grant that provided aid to Fox also supported mobile spay/neuter and vaccination clinics and helped Baw Baw provide rescue and medical care to dozens of other dogs throughout Sri Lanka. This work addresses the immediate needs of animals in crisis while supporting longer-term efforts to reduce suffering.

Fox may never regain the use of her hind legs, but she is in a place where she will always be cared for and cherished. Her days at the sanctuary now include sunshine, gentle chin scratches, and the warmth and safety of a loving home.

Her amazing transformation was made possible by Lady Freethinker supporters, whose generosity helped provide Fox with veterinary treatment, safe shelter, daily mobility assistance, and lifelong protection.

Lady Freethinker is deeply grateful to every supporter who helped make Fox’s care possible and to Baw Baw Animal Welfare’s caregivers, who continue providing the assistance and protection she needs.

Fox’s life will never be the same, but she will spend it safe, cared for, and happy.
