Four pugs and a turtle are safe after Phoenix first responders worked together to save the animals from a mobile home fire.
Body camera video released by the Phoenix Police Department showed an officer spotting smoke near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road on June 8 around 2:30 p.m., Arizona’s Family reported. He ran toward the fire and tried to help firefighters with a garden hose as flames came from the home.
The body camera video later shows the officer using an axe to force his way inside and calling out, “Is anyone in there?” while the fire burned through part of the home.
When firefighters got inside, they found companion animals who needed help. A firefighter handed a pug to the officer, who carried the dog away from the burning home and toward safety. In all, four pugs and one turtle were saved.
No one was injured 12News reported. Fortunately, Phoenix Fire Department said the animals were in great condition and expected to survive. The department was investigating the cause of the fire.
