Three piglets were rescued from a horrifying art exhibit — where they were supposed to starve to death — after a 10-year-old girl pleaded with her father to rescue the innocent animals from their impending fate, according to the New York Post.

The exhibit “And Now You Care?” was created by artist Marco Evaristti and premiered in Copenhagen.

The piglets were trapped inside “a cage of hay and shopping carts.” The purpose of the exhibition was to leave them to starve to death to highlight a harsh reality of pig farms. Around 25,000 piglets allegedly die each day on farms in Denmark, some due to insufficient feeding, as mother pigs are bred to have 20 piglets while only having 14 teats

Caspar Steffensen, another artist who is friends with Evaristti, had a daughter who pleaded with him to “make sure the piggies won’t die.”

The animal rights group De Glemte Danske (the Forgotten Danes) then collaborated with Steffensen to save the pigs.

“So when I was approached by an activist to help free the animals, I let them into the gallery secretively on Saturday,” Steffensen said.

The group reportedly stated that nothing else was stolen and no other crimes occurred during the rescue. They even recorded their theft and called the Copenhagen police.

The piglet trio — Simon, Lucia, and Benjamin — were then brought “to a safe location” by the group.

Numerous animal protection groups publicly opposed the exhibition, even though they understood the intended message had importance.

“We completely understand the indignation [of Evaristti],” Animal Protection Denmark Spokesperson Birgitte Damm said. “But we do not agree that three piglets, three individual living beings, should be starved and prevented from drinking until they die from it. It is illegal and it’s abuse of the animals.”

Evaristti is planning a future exhibit to convey a similar sentiment and said he will use dead piglets that are taken from meat processing plants.

Lady Freethinker is pleased to see these pigs saved from such an atrocious fate and is happy to know they will have the opportunity to live a life free from suffering and early death. The horrors farmed animals endure is a global issue, and LFT will continue to fight for their protection.
