Six abandoned puppies are now safe and receiving the care they need after firefighters discovered them in the area of the 3-1 Pit Fire in Lassen County, California, according to local news.
Members of CAL FIRE’s Devil’s Garden crew were working to contain the large blaze when they encountered the vulnerable puppies potentially in harm’s way.
Once rescued, the tiny animals were first brought to the crew’s division/group supervisor and then transferred to a Lassen County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who ultimately transported them to the Lassen County Animal Shelter.
The puppies are still too young to be spayed or neutered and will not be available for adoption through the county shelter. They will later move into the care of a rescue partner that will help them find permanent homes.
“A heartfelt thank you to the Devil’s Garden crew, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lassen County Animal Shelter for working together to ensure these puppies are safe,” CAL FIRE’s Lassen-Modoc Unit wrote in a Facebook post.
Lady Freethinker is grateful to the rescuers and caregivers who stepped in to give these puppies a second chance and hopes each puppy eventually finds a loving family to call their own.
