South Korean First Lady Kim Keon-hee has publicly called for an end to the cruel dog meat industry in her country. We applaud her words, and now call on her to take action to help ensure this brutal commercial trade ends for good.
“Not consuming dog meat is ultimately an expression of respect for man’s best friend and it also means respect for life,” she said in an interview. Her husband, President Yoon Suk-yeol, took office on May 10, 2022.
Her call to ban eating dog meat is further bolstered by former President Moon Jae-in’s recent statement that it is time to seriously consider the ban on dog meat.
S. Korea is the only country in the world with large, factory-style dog meat farms. The dogs may be be beaten, hung and electrocuted, and suffer immensely in this industry.
As international animal protection activists, we urge the government of Korea to outlaw the dog meat trade completely.
