Lady Freethinker is helping provide vital care for last-chance and special needs animals in Yale, Oklahoma, through a $10,000 Urgent Need Fund grant to Misfits of Oz Farm Sanctuary. The funding helped the sanctuary build a medical campus for the pigs, dogs, cats, goats, and sheep it rescues from mistreatment.

“The Misfits of Oz Medical Campus has been a dream for us here at the sanctuary for years,” Executive Director Shanda Harris told LFT.
This award supported the construction of three new buildings: a quarantine barn that keeps new arrivals separated from current residents to prevent health risks; a clinic for performing minor procedures and managing small wounds; and a surgical recovery cabin with a bed, lighting, a TV, and a small fenced area to provide extra comfort and round-the-clock care for healing animals.

The grant proved to be especially timely, as the sanctuary had just welcomed Moxon, a 3-year-old potbelly pig who required invasive surgery and a safe environment in which to recuperate. Thanks to the new recovery cabin, Moxon was able to heal in a warm, dry, and comfortable space — happily watching Garfield as he rested.
Olive, a pig recently rescued, will need hernia repair surgery and is enjoying her pre-procedure stay on the medical campus. Jolene, another pig at the sanctuary, may soon need a toe amputation, or at a minimum, intensive wound care. She will also rely on this new cabin during her recovery.

“We are so beyond grateful for this gift from Lady Freethinker,” Harris said. “The possibilities and care we can provide with this are life-changing for the animals who call Oz home!”
This critical project is only possible because of our amazing supporters. Thanks to you, Lady Freethinker can continue empowering organizations like Misfits of Oz Farm Sanctuary to give vulnerable animals the care and comfort they deserve.
