At one time deemed too “weird” looking to find a loving family by her suspected breeder, a four-year-old husky named Jubilee overcame the odds and recently found her forever home.
Jubilee’s former caretaker surrendered her to a rescue organization a few years ago because he or she felt the dog’s unique appearance, which is caused by a congenital eyelid issue, would prevent her from being sold. From there, Jubilee went to the Husky House in Matawan, N.J.
“We’ve taken her to the vet. She’s been thoroughly checked out. It doesn’t infringe on any of her day-to-day activities,” a shelter spokesperson told BuzzFeed of Jubilee’s condition. “She was born this way, but she’s a happy, playful dog.”
The Husky House recently appealed to potential local adopters by posting about Jubilee on their Facebook page.
“I wish I was beautiful so someone would want me to be their dog,” Jubilee’s post read. “Doesn’t anyone want a funny looking husky? I wish I had a family of my own who could love me even though I’m not pretty.”
The heartbreaking post quickly went viral, as the internet fell head-over-heels for the pup and her cartoon-ish blue eyes. Within one week, a lucky family eagerly adopted Jubilee.
Before going to her new home, she visited the salon.
Aside from finding a loving family for Jubilee, her social media posts generated an outpouring of love and support from her new fans. From artwork and drawings to t-shirts, Jubilee is a very popular pup! Proceeds from the shirts benefit other dogs in need at the Husky House.
Jubilee’s new guardians set up a Facebook page for her, so her devoted followers can keep up with her life’s newest chapter. She’s adjusting well to her forever home; Jubilee loves playing with her canine siblings and has already met her neighbor’s dog!
This touching story reminds us that being different is beautiful.
