A stolen Labrador Retriever named Daisy was recently miraculously reunited with her family after missing for seven years, according to The Guardian.
Rita and Philip Potter, a couple from the U.K., reported their beloved companion missing in November 2017. Witnesses claimed to have seen individuals alleged to be backyard breeders take Daisy from the garden at her home and put her in a truck. Unfortunately, police were unable to trace the vehicle’s license plate.
The theft of Daisy sparked public outrage. The government was petitioned by 100,000 individuals to take stronger action to deter people from stealing pets. Thankfully, the Pet Abduction Act was passed in 2024, which imposed a prison sentence of up to five years for pet theft.
On February 2 of this year, during routine investigations over 200 miles away, RSPCA inspector Kim Walters discovered Daisy, who was suffering from untreated mammary masses. She was then taken to a veterinarian, where her microchip revealed the Potters were her guardians.
“We kept a photograph on the mantlepiece and would look at it every day, thinking of her and where she might be. So it is an absolute dream come true that the RSPCA found her and have returned her to us – where she belongs – we are so, so grateful,” said Rita.
Thanks to her microchip, Daisy reunited with her loving family. Lady Freethinker encourages everyone to microchip their animal companions to help ensure their safe return if they go missing. We are thrilled that Daisy will live the rest of her life in peace, surrounded by those who love her.
