Luna was soaking wet, frightened, and clinging to the side of a deep golf course pond when Colorado police arrived to help pull her back to safety.

People reported that the brown and white dog became trapped in a pond at Hyland Hills Golf Course in Westminster on May 19, citing a Westminster Police Department spokesperson and bodycam footage the department shared on Facebook.

Officers responded to a call about Luna that morning. Westminster Police Department Animal Management Officer Wood and another officer found her in the pond and worked carefully to get her out.

Bodycam footage showed the officers using a towel and leash to pull Luna from the water. As they worked, Officer Wood reassured the dog with a gentle, “That’s a good girl,” and the officers continued offering pats and kind words while bringing her to dry land.

Luna’s family had been actively searching for her after she escaped through a gate in their yard, which was fairly close to the golf course, the department spokesperson told People. After the rescue, Luna was returned home safely.

Lady Freethinker is grateful to Officer Wood, the Westminster Police Department, and everyone who helped make sure Luna’s scary morning ended with safety, kindness, and a family reunion.
