Egypt has taken a major step toward more humane tourism by banning the use of all animals in entertainment shows at hotels and tourism facilities nationwide, according to local reports from Egypt Independent and Cairo24.

The new directive — issued by the Chamber of Tourist Establishments and Restaurants — comes after the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops, and Tourist Activities warned that some venues were still using animals, including wild species, in performances for guests and that this practice could directly endanger tourists and expose facilities to legal issues.

The Chamber cautioned that any facility found violating the instructions may face immediate legal and administrative action.

Beyond the risks to humans, animals used in live performances can often be subjected to confinement, isolation, fear-based training, and other stressful conditions that can cause significant physical and psychological harm.

Lady Freethinker is grateful to see Egypt taking steps to prohibit the use of animals in live performances at tourist venues and encourages officials to progress further by expanding this ban to animals exploited in street performances and forced to haul visitors in harsh conditions at tourist attractions. We also hope that this inspires other countries to enact similar measures.

As always, we will continue to advocate for stronger protections for these innocent beings and fight for a world where they are no longer exploited for human entertainment.
