In the cobblestone neighborhoods of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, animal advocates are working to ease the immense suffering created by dog and cat overpopulation — and Lady Freethinker is helping, thanks to the generosity of supporters like you!

Nearly 90 animals received free care including spay/neuter surgeries, flea and tick preventives, and deworming at Paw and Claws PV’s Cuale Spay & Neuter Clinic — sponsored by Lady Freethinker. Guardians brought their beloved companions, community members transported familiar street dogs, and volunteers trapped feral cats — all to prevent future homelessness, hunger, and death caused by overpopulation.

With five veterinarians and dozens of volunteers working to ensure that the animals receive the best care – while teaching guardians how to keep their companions healthy and happy for years to come – these spay & neuter clinics offer a critical lifeline for the community.

While services are free, the gratitude flows generously. One volunteer recalled a woman who brought paper towels to a recent clinic, eager to contribute whatever she had on hand.

The hot summer sun didn’t prevent the clinic from filling with patients. Aba, a calm and beautiful pit bull terrier, had puppies just two months earlier. Her guardian was excited to have her spayed to prevent future litters.

Similarly, volunteer Sara had seen Lola, a friendly street dog in her neighborhood, with puppies multiple times and she knew she had to step in to end the cycle.
Another volunteer committed to getting community cats sterilized brought 11 felines to the clinic!

Harmony, a volunteer working to check in patients, recalled a recent conversation with a native of Puerto Vallarta who noted that the stray animal population had been overwhelming years ago, but since animal advocates began working tirelessly to bring spay/neuter clinics to communities, there has been a remarkable difference.
