A kitten was saved from a storm drain in York County, Pa., thanks to firefighters — and the help of a determined good Samaritan and her cat, according to a York Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 627 IAFF Facebook post.
York City Fire was dispatched to the scene after a caller reported hearing the desperate cries of a trapped cat coming from underground. Upon arrival, the firefighters could hear the meows coming from below, but were unable to see the feline.
They then removed the metal grate to get a better look, and a crew member spotted the tiny creature in a pipe. However, the kitten kept retreating into other pipes, disappearing from view.
To help lure the kitten to safety, the caller brought over some cat food to toss into the drain — and even returned with her own cat. With the two felines meowing to one another, and the food serving as extra encouragement, the kitten crept toward the opening, and a firefighter was able to scoop the animal up. Thankfully, the kitten seemed to be healthy and unharmed.
Lady Freethinker is grateful to the York City firefighters, the good Samaritan, and her cat — whose compassion, quick thinking, and dedication helped save this tiny life.
