A cat named Manhattan is finally safe and sound after spending two weeks stuck in a pine tree in Toledo, Ohio. On June 7, the helpless black feline climbed into an oak tree standing almost 40 feet tall, and the local police and firefighters were unable to help.
Humane Ohio attempted a rescue after a concerned citizen reached out, but the distressed cat climbed even higher into the tree as rescuers approached him. Running out of options, local rescue organization Compassionate Village appealed to a nearby landscaping service, who were happy to use their cherry picker to assist in Manhattan’s rescue.
Using cat food to lure the frightened cat to the cherry picker, Aaron Norris of Northwestern Tree Service and Landscaping retrieved Manhattan and brought him to safety in less than five minutes, according to WTOL.
Manhattan, who was found dehydrated, hungry, and covered in sap, has a long road to recovery ahead, but he’s currently in stable condition, and it’s a miracle he survived the lengthy ordeal.
Thanks to the dedicated rescuers and the animal-friendly business who had the resources necessary to save this sweet cat.
