Found as an emaciated stray with damaged ears and a nasal infection, Nutmeg once had very little to smile about. In fact, from the look on his face he appeared to be the world’s saddest cat.
Taken in by the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, New York, Nutmeg gradually regained his health, and started to show his sweet personality. Still, he waited at the shelter for nine long months without anyone willing to adopt him.
Then one day, life changed for Nutmeg. A couple visited the shelter and fell in love with the downtrodden kitty. And soon, they proudly shared a photo of Nutmeg with a smile on his face.
Thank you to the shelter and the adoptive family for giving Nutmeg the happy life he deserves.

EXCELLENT — this is HOW SHELTERS MUST WORK — the Shelter took in Nutmeg — cared for her, ensured her health and happiness — continually got the word out she was up for adoption and FINALLY — wonderful people rang in to take her home — this Shelter’s policy is Take in homeless animals, hold onto them, meanwhile ensure they get everything they need to thrive WHILE reaching out to the world informing all that Nutmeg is ready for a loving family — it’s all pretty straightforward, doable and win-win-win.
This is such a wonderful story. These are the kind of stories that i love to hear about. Good for you,Nutmeg, you deserve the best.
how adorable his smile is! Way to go Nutmeg. God Bless his new family for giving him home and love.
We too adopted an older cat – 7 years he had been a shelter. There is no love quite like having Chester with us. He is my constant companion and has made himself right at home with our other cat. We can’t remember what it was like not having him.
