Mussa, an adorable baby chimp, was orphaned after losing his family to poachers in Virunga National Park in the Congo.
But luckily for Mussa, pilot Anthony Caere was there to whisk him to the safe haven of the Lwiro Primates rescue and rehabilitation center. On the flight, Anthony cared for Mussa just like his own mother would have, cuddling and grooming as the baby chimp sat in the caring pilot’s lap. The chimp remained so calm during the flight, he managed to sneak in a nap!
Mussa may never get over the trauma of losing his family, but we are thankful to Anthony and the Lwiro staff for caring for this orphaned baby who so desperately needed their help.
One of my favorite images — it’s just so beautiful — isn’t it?!

(Another sad day of senseless animal poaching).

Beautiful — thank you so much — these sweet animals desperately NEED rational, compassionate, knowledgeable humans — again, thank you.
Absolutely Lovely….
What a lovely, caring man. Anthony, you were the next best thing to the original mum, and you helped smooth the way for Mussa to enjoy his new life. Blessings.
What a neat!!!!!!! Thank you thank you!
What a wonderful man. Poor baby. Hope little Mussa finds happiness despite the loss of his family. Thanks to all involved for helping him. Thank you, Anthony, for being his surrogate Mom and taking the time, and care, to fly him to safety!
On the one hand so sorry that your work is necessary and poaching still goes on…on the other hand this is so heartwarming to see. It helps to somewhat ‘counter’ all the terrible stories that pass here. Sometimes I can hardly stand it anymore and still knowing that there are truly fantastic people like you out there does help.
thank you to him for saving that poor baby, yes the world will be better with such human, god bless
If there were more people like this man, there would be a better world. Thank you son for having such a big heart.
Thank you Anthony… you’re an inspiration to all of us. Have a wonderful life Mussa you deserve it.
So sorry to hear that Mussa lost his family. So happy to hear that he was rescued by Anthony and is being cared by the srmtaff at Lwira. ???
Thank you Anthony ! I am so happy you all right Mussa, safe and alive. So sad to hear Mussa family was killed by horrible poachers.
Sorry for previous post. I thought I was posting to the Justice for Dogs Starved petition I had just read. We need more people like this pilot. He’s wonderful.
This should be a felony. Hopefully, the judge assigned this case will throw the book at this disturbed individual.
Angels Live among us….so many bad things around us…it’s wonderful to see if not perfect ending (if only the child’s whole family was with him/her). Thanks for sharing.
That is sweet we need to save all animals include ? and ? to ever animals deserve to live
Whow, what a great story! I truly believe that animals have a sixth sense about people; I must also add that if I had a choice to be with my dogs or with a total stranger, I would pick my dogs. I am the kind of person who really enjoy animals. Some years ago I tried to help a homeless person and because of him I almost landed in jail. Sorry, but animals are my preference.
That was the sweetest thing ever?
How admirable, big hugs for the humanitarians, and bless the chimp stays safe. Namaste? good stories our family can refer read enough or create enough. Thank you all . tears of joy streaming down my cheeks ????????????
