When a bitter-cold polar vortex descended upon the American Midwest late last month, one Kalispell, Montana family’s cat became trapped in a snowbank and almost didn’t survive.
After discovering their beloved Fluffy unconscious, matted with chunks of snow, and nearly frozen solid, the family rushed her to a local animal clinic. Her temperature was so low, it wouldn’t register on a thermometer.
Two hours later, after warm water and blankets had failed to raise Fluffy’s temperature, she was transferred to an emergency room.
Finally, after a few more hours, Fluffy’s condition began to improve. She made a full recovery and returned home with her family, who wisely decided that from now on, she’ll remain indoors.
This story reminds us to keep a close eye on our pets and to accompany them at all times if they must go outdoors, especially in frigid winter weather.
Que suerte tubo ese angelito y espero que en los dias frios este siempre en casita a no descuidarse son muy paseanderos

I don’t even like letting our cats out in their enclosed catio when it’s freezing, or really hot. If they insist, I check on them every few minutes so I know they’re OK. I couldn’t sleep if I knew one of them was who-knows-where during that deep freeze.
Happy Fluffy survived her misadventure, and hope her family understand how lucky they all were, and never does this again.
Thanks to everyone who helped save this beloved pet to his owners.
Best wishes Fluffy………….and stay out of the snow little one.
I try to educate everyone I know or can about the dangers facing our animal in the bitter, bitter cold and the triple digit heat. Any pet should be brought inside at temps lower than 35* and higher than 85*. They MUST have suitable shelter when outside and that shelter should have old blankets or straw maybe self-heating pads. We have two feral cats who will not come inside. One is a resident the other comes & goes. They both have houses built a& have self-heating pads as well as Lectro- Soft Heating Pads that start heating once the animal lays on it. They also have heated bowls to keep their food warm & water from freezing. They are feral but deserve our love, respect & care. We have 3 small dogs who are inside dogs & have a doggie door where they can go out when they need to potty or just go out & enjoy the outdoors. I have had 4 doghouses donated so that I can give them to people who have pets without shelter. A large, 2 medium & a small, all pet barns & we insulate them before giving them out. I question those who have asked about them & try to educate them to the dangers of animal being outside 24/7 and/or chained & no fence. Coyotes are running rampant & killing animals. We live in the city limits & they have killed as close as 2 streets over from us. We won’t let our dogs use the doggie door after dark. They use pee pads. So far only the larger doghouse has been spoken for. People don’t seem to want to hear about taking care of animals properly. I wish they did.
Thank you for caring for the two ferals. You have a great set-up. You’re also responsible about your doggies being safe. People like you give me hope for this world.
We also have set up shelters and feeding stations for two ferals who won’t come in here in our garage, up on shelves so they can get away from our neighborhood fox.
We can’t help every animal in the world, but when they’re right in front of us, I feel we have to do something. Even the smallest thing can make a big difference.
Anybody who feels cats can roam outside should not be allowed to adopt one,
Well said, Steve.
I’m glad to hear that this cat survived because so many animals would not have. I’m also happy to hear that the family has decided to leave her inside from now on and I hope that will be true.
Do the owners even deserve to have a pet if they think it okay to leave them outside when it is so obviously very cold!!
I’m totally with you on that comment Jock Blair!!! That cat obviously has a very strong will to live. I just want to take it & love it all up ♥
Really? Nothing peaceful or family friendly about pet owners who leave their pets outside for hours during anytime in winter, never mind when polar vortex’s are in effect. They had to learn that lesson at the expense of this poor cat.
Exactly! Are we experiencing a total dumbing-down of the human race, or what? Do these so-called “pet owners” also think that their cat might want to eat a meal, like… oh, every other week or so? Many a drink of water once a month?
So happy the cat, Fluffy survived.
Thank God Fluffy pulled through. ❤❤💚💚🐱🐈🐾
This is another time that God’s angels are looking after all of us.
WHY WAS SHE OUTSIDE TO BEGIN WITH?????????????????????????????????????
Thank you God and ANIMAL clinic for saving fluffy. Bit please people keep your cats inside
Im not even sure how I can fathom how someone would have allowed a pet to be out in that weather, what the hec? sorry but they do not deserve her back. I keep reading stories like this and it just makes me wonder why they have pets at all, would they leave their two year old outside to get snowed in the freezing weather? geez!
