PETITION TARGET: Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill

UPDATE (4/17/19): A judge ordered Fidel Lopez to 60 days in jail, 3 years probation and forbade Lopez from owning a dog for 15 years. This shockingly lenient sentence is the maximum penalty allowed under current Oregon law. Sign this petition urging Oregon Governor Kate Brown to make it a top priority to pass stronger animal protection laws: https://ladyfreethinker.org/sign-justice-for-estrella-dog-who-died-from-sexual-assault/.

In a sickening case of animal cruelty, an Oregon man brutally raped his fiancée’s dog in a drunken rage after she wouldn’t respond to his text messages. The dog’s internal injuries were so severe the vet had to euthanize the small Lhasa Apso, named Estrella.

The vet stated Estrella suffered significant internal injuries from the sexual assault, which punctured her organs. A necropsy revealed traces of 51-year-old Fidel Lopez’s DNA inside her.

Lopez admitted that he raped the dog “out of anger,” but said that she seemed “fine at the time,” according to an affidavit.

When Lopez’s fiancée returned home, she heard her dog whining under the couch. Upon closer observation, she discovered blood around Estrella’s rear end and rushed her to a vet.

According to his fianceé, this disgusting attack isn’t out of character for Lopez. She told authorities that he had “potential bestiality tendencies.” She says he had previously exposed his genitals to dogs, and bragged about watching someone else have sexual relations with a dog.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office has charged Lopez with aggravated animal abuse and sexual assault of an animal. He is currently in custody with bail set at just $10,000.

We must take action to protect animals from such unspeakable acts of cruelty. With this man’s history, he will almost certainly assault another animal unless the courts take serious intervention steps.

Sign this petition urging Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill to prosecute Lopez to the fullest extent of the law and ensure he is never allowed near an animal again.
