Eleven tiny ducklings were allegedly crushed to death on a Jacksonville, Florida street after a car drove over the helpless babies and then turned around multiple times to hit them again, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, as reported by CBS Miami.
These vulnerable birds had no way to understand why a vehicle was bearing down on them and no way to escape the repeated impact. Neighbors later gathered their bodies from the road and gave them a small burial, according to News4JAX, a heartbreaking act of dignity after needless violence.
Police arrested a woman on 11 felony animal cruelty counts after investigators said surveillance video showed the ducklings being run over. Authorities said the woman allegedly told witnesses she killed them because they “made a mess in her yard.”
Sign this petition to urge State Attorney Melissa W. Nelson to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law and seek intensive psychological intervention and a lifetime ban on having animals.
