In a hopeful move forward for animal welfare in the Middle East, Oman’s Ministry of Social Development has officially established the Oman Animal Welfare Association, which is dedicated to protecting and caring for animals through a wide range of objectives, according to the decree.
Its focus will be on taking care of and rehabilitating some of the country’s most vulnerable animals, including those who are homeless or injured.
To support its mission, the association will promote humane treatment practices and offer training in schools to help those involved in animal-related work better meet animals’ needs and enhance their quality of life.
Other objectives include bolstering animal protection laws, helping native animals, promoting the association through events and sponsorship, and fostering collaboration with animal welfare groups and professionals to protect animals from cruelty.
To manage this critical work, a board of five to 12 members will be elected and serve renewable two-year terms. The association’s funding will come from members, donations, income generated from activities, government-backed assistance, and other approved sources.
By launching the Oman Animal Welfare Association, the country is taking a significant step toward creating a kinder future for nonhuman animals.
Lady Freethinker applauds this vital announcement for animal welfare in Oman and hopes the Association will create meaningful change for animals nationwide, while inspiring other countries in the region to take similar action.
