When he was just a helpless puppy, Costa was thrown out of his home onto the streets of Haiti because his patchy and raw skin made him look diseased. People on the streets tried to capture and kill him. Luckily, he was brought to a local shelter, where donations from supporters like you helped Lady Freethinker fund his care.
Since receiving the nourishment, protection, and love he needed, he’s now an energetic, healthy dog.

Touky and his siblings arrived at the shelter as puppies with parvovirus, a life-threatening viral disease that attacks the digestive system. After receiving the critical care he needed to survive, Touky also emerged as a thriving, loving dog and now awaits adoption.
The challenges facing animals in Haiti are immense and options are limited.
Fondation Alliance Verte is Haiti’s first and only shelter dedicated to dogs and cats. Its founder, Marylin Esper Acloque, used to feed street dogs she encountered on her way to work. When she couldn’t find a shelter for these unwanted dogs, she decided to create her own.

According to Acloque, dogs are frequently kept chained outdoors in the elements without sufficient food or water, and some cats are stolen for meat.
Access to veterinary treatment is limited. Widespread poverty and gang violence add to the difficulties of caring for vulnerable animals. Acloque’s shelter is a beacon of hope in a bleak landscape.

LFT is proud to support Fondation Alliance Verte. Donations help pay for food, vaccinations, spay and neuter procedures, as well as kennels and enclosed outdoor spaces for cats.

Costa is still waiting for a family to call his own. In the meantime, he and many other dogs and cats have the safety and care they need to thrive — thanks to their dedicated rescuers and support from caring people like you!
LFT remains committed to helping animals rescued from cruelty and neglect in Haiti and around the world.
