A 20-pound Maine Coon’s search for a cozy place to keep warm turned dangerous when the curious feline got stuck under a vehicle in Livermore, California, according to KTVU.

Upon hearing the desperate meows from the cat, a car owner contacted the police for assistance, and an animal services officer was dispatched to the location. The cat likely traveled three miles in the wheel well before the driver heard the frantic meowing, Livermore Police stated.

The officer arrived to find the feline lodged by the engine block and called a towing company for help. Once the car was elevated, the officer retrieved the cat after around 45 minutes of effort.

The Maine Coon appeared to be in pain and was swiftly transported to a vet. Police stated that the cat is expected to recover fully.

Officers suspect the feline may have entered the wheel well to avoid the cold weather.

Later that day, the cat’s guardian was able to reunite with their companion after contacting the police to report the animal missing.

Lady Freethinker is thrilled about the reunion of this cat and their guardian and thanks the Livermore Police Department for their incredible rescue. This story serves as a reminder to cat guardians to #BringThemIndoors.
