The Queen of England is going fur-free. The monarch’s senior dresser, Angela Kelly, made the revelation in her recent memoir, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe.
“If Her Majesty is due to attend an engagement in particularly cold weather, from 2019 onwards fake fur will be used to make sure she stays warm,” the queen’s employee of 25 years divulged.
A Buckingham Palace representative told the Telegraph, “As new outfits are designed for the Queen, any fur used will be fake.” She will still wear her existing furs and ceremonial robes, but with so many beautiful faux fur options available, it should not be hard for the Queen and her dressers to continue in her tradition of glamour and sophistication.
Many U.S. cities and countries including Great Britain have taken steps to ban fur farming, and fashion companies are following suit. Animals slaughtered for their fur are kept in frightful conditions, left to suffer without veterinary care and cruelly slaughtered — often skinned alive.
The executive director of Humane Society International Claire Bass applauded the Queen for her decision. “Queen Elizabeth’s decision to ‘go faux’ is the perfect reflection of the mood of the British public, the vast majority of whom detest cruel fur, and want nothing to do with it,” said Bass. “Our Head of State going fur-free sends a powerful message that fur is firmly out of fashion and does not belong with Brand Britain.”

The year is 2019, animals being killed for their fur is an atrocity and irrespective of royalty or not, this practise should have ended decades ago, not this late. The good news is the queen may set an example, but with mans ability to mimic virtually anything, it is sad that these actions to go fur free have only just started to take effect.
Thank you.
I just wanted to talk about birds as too many people do not do their research and the birds ends up being euthanized or bounced around from home to home. especially true for larger birds like cockatoos and macaws. there is a link for cockatoos .
cockatoos.com that tells you the truth about cockatoos. a lot of times people unknowingly spend a lot of money to buy a baby from a breeder. some breeders may assume you know about cockatoos, as you may not know what questions to ask. never buy a round cage for any bird, also you have to remember that every bird needs a cage big enough so they can fully spread their wings. they also need lots of toys to destroy and lots of attention or they could easily get bored and they start pulling their feathers out. Best to get a bird from an avian rescue as you will have a good back ground on the bird. you may even get an appropriate sized cage. and one more consideration large birds like african grey, cockatoo and macaw can live up to 100 years if on the proper diet and groomed every couple of months. so you need to put the bird in your will
I’m soooo proud of all you right fighters!!! In the 80s, anti-fur protestors were “guided” (read: grabbed and thrown out, maybe even arrested) out of fashion shows. Now, more & more fashion houses turn away from fur. I personally thank the queen for her decision and announcing it to the world!
IT’S ABOUT TIME. THE BITCH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MILLIONS OF ANIMALS.
IT’S ABOUT TIME THE BITCH DOES THIS. UNDER HER REIGN MILLIONS OF ANIMALS HAVE DIED.
QUANTO TEMPO ESSA SENHORA, PQ MINHA RAINHA ELA NÃO É E NUNCA SERIA PORQUE NA MINHA OPINIÃO TER FEITO USO DE PELE ANIMAL TODOS ESSES ANOS E AGORA NA HORA BREVE , EM NOME DE JESUS DE SEU FINAL DE VIDA, FÚTIL, RAINHA PEQUENA, VACILONA, NÃO GOSTO DE PESSOAS ASSIM, QUE QUEREM APARECER COM PELE ANIMAL, PRA MIM SÃO PESSOAS QUE NÃO PRESTAM, NÃO VELEM NADA E NÃO PENSAM ALEM DE SE PRÓPRIO UMBIGO
Please go fur-free to stop the terrible suffering, horrific living conditions, electrocution, skinning alive and slaughter.
For crying out loud, she’s 97, fine time and fine way to get your name on the news. Thanks for nothing queen.
Yes indeed, how old is she? 97? she could have stopped the horror many, many years ago.
Thank you, Queen Elizabeth!
I am happy to see the Queen is setting the pace to this horrible practice to animals, I have seen things done with animals that I would like to burn out of my mind, hopefully things will progress at a faster pace for those that are suffering
Its about time the Queen went fur free,Imagine how many innocent animals have died for her clother,it makes me sick to my stomach
Why wear fur at all – fake or otherwise? Also, many unscrupulous fur farmers are passing off real fur as fake and most people can’t tell the difference. If we all stopped wearing all kinds of fur, their cruel trade would cease altogether.
We love the Queen, but what about the shoots on her land and the hunting??
On her own land? Or in the country?
Your right, her family has always hunted with dogs and guns,so that’s just part of what she should stop
Welcome,,,,we’ve been waiting for you!
Best decision i’ve head from the Royals in years – end the fox hunting and tighten up animal abuse laws – I’m sure the Queen hasn’t lived a day of her life being cold – nor have any of us – we don’t need fur anymore, the animals do – don’t wear dead animals on your body – really bad karma.
There are other garments people can wear to keep warm. It doesn’t have to be fur. I congratulate the Queen though on her choice to not wear fur any longer. I always got the feeling that she loved animals.
I really don’t know what to say! I am so very happy she has made this change but why not sooner, she has the kind of power to influence & make positive changes, so I am hoping she will share!
Queen Elizabeth grew up in a different age where it was “normal” to kill animals for sport, food and clothing. She is a sharp lady who can keep up with the times and realize that these sentient creatures have a right to life without fear of a cruel death. Bless you and thank you for setting a wonderful example for all of the rest of humanity.
‘Bout time or too little too late when the old bag has been wearing the skin of dead animals far too long. No wonder Diana couldn’t stand her.
Bravo for the Queen taking a stand against the cruelty of genuine fur. She is a leader that we can look up to and respect. First, banning trophy hunting results into the country, and, now, resolving to go fur free. May the rest of the country follow suit.
Hooray for the Queen !
Brava to the Queen of England!
Thank you very much.
