An abandoned dog, found last month tied to a tree in the woods in Prince George County with a note attached to his collar, has now found his forever home.
Named Zeus, the sweet two-year-old German shepherd/Labrador retriever mix was lucky to be discovered by a concerned passerby and taken to the amazing team at the Prince George County Animal Shelter. The scribbled, hand-written note said, “I am a very good dog but my owner just can’t afford me anymore. She tried to find me a good home but nobody would take me. I am good with kids and cats but I get scared when meeting new dogs.” The previous owner went on to write, “I am left with no other options for him. I hate to do this but I just can not afford him anymore.”
The staff at Prince George County Animal Shelter shared Zeus’ story on social media, stating that he was “completely failed by his last owner.” They found him a new home, with guardians who they say are “wonderful pet owners who will give Zeus the kind of home that loves him for life this time.”
The shelter plead for pet owners with financial difficulties to reach out to their local shelter for help before simply abandoning their pet, saying, “Many areas have resources to assist if they can not assist you personally.”
It’s onwards and upwards for a smiling and happy Zeus, whose sad story of betrayal by his beloved family has a happy ending for him.
