A rottweiler fell into an icy creek and was heroically rescued by a mail carrier in Highspire, Pennsylvania, according to WGAL 8.

The dog’s back legs were trapped under the ice and despite his efforts to pull himself out with his front legs, he was unsuccessful and continued slipping on the ice.

Steve Mull, a mail carrier, noticed the struggling pup and immediately took action. He jumped into the creek and pulled the dog out to safety.

He then took the dog to the Highspire Police Department, where the pooch was given treats, water, and plenty of blankets to keep warm.

“My mom always told me to take care of all creatures,” Mull said.

Later in the day, the dog’s human picked him up, but an investigation revealed possible abuse and neglect, and authorities seized the dog back. The investigation is ongoing and the dog is currently in veterinary care.

Lady Freethinker applauds Steve Mull for taking immediate action to save this dog, who will hopefully be adopted into a warm and loving home after recovering. This story serves as a reminder to keep dogs indoors this winter so they can enjoy the warm homes they deserve.
