A boy who was targeted by bullies for his unique differently colored eyes and cleft palate has found his soulmate in the form of a cat named Moon with eyes that match his.
Seven-year-old Madden Humphries from Oklahoma was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, and stunning contrasting eye hues. He has undergone six surgeries, with more to come, to repair the cleft lip, and was the victim of serious bullying from a young age, which his mother says still “rears its nastiness once in a while.”
Madden’s mom, Victoria, heard about this rare rescued kitten on a Facebook group for mothers of children with cleft lips.
“We knew immediately that this kitty was meant to be a part of our family. Not only does he have a cleft lip like our seven-year-old son Madden, he also has complete heterochromia iridum (contrasting eye colours), like Madden. They were destined to be best friends. Funny how a pet can make you feel less alone,” she said.
With the support of friends and some generous strangers, the family traveled interstate across Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota to pick up sweet Moon.
“He’s a little nervous as he’s adapting to a new place, but he’s so affectionate, and he LOVES Madden. He’ll come right up, and snuggle in his lap,” said the family in an Instagram post.
It’s a match made in heaven for these two unique souls who are quickly becoming best friends.
“Moon helps Madden realise that being born unique is an incredible thing, that he is magic,” his mother told Love What Matters.
