Two dogs rescued from dire circumstances now know safety and comfort, thanks to Lady Freethinker’s Animal Aid Fund and the dedicated volunteers at Rescate Fenix, an all-volunteer rescue organization operating in Obregón, Mexico.
From Crisis to Comfort: Simon and George Get a Lifeline

When rescuers first found Simon, he was a fragile, severely underweight puppy struggling to survive on the streets of Mexico. He suffered from a serious eye infection and lacked the food, medical care, and safety every puppy needs to thrive.
With help from LFT’s Animal Aid Fund, Simon received urgent veterinary treatment, nutritious food, and steady care from rescuers. Today, he is thriving in a foster home where he can rest, play, and finally experience the safety he was denied for so long — and hopefully soon find a forever home.

LFT’s support also helped cover the veterinary expenses for George, a bulldog who was pulled from an overcrowded shelter in Southern California. Facing several medical issues, George required emergency surgery before he could begin to recover. Thanks to the rescue effort and the support of LFT donors, he is now on the mend — enjoying warmth, comfort, and plenty of naps while he recuperates.
Continuing to Help Animals on the U.S./Mexico Border
In 2024, Lady Freethinker supported Rescate Fenix with a grant through our Urgent Need Fund, which helped expand spay/neuter services for animal companions in an impoverished community in Mexico. The fantastic organization runs a shelter in Obregón, provides medical care and rehabilitation for rescues, and relocates animals to the U.S. for adoption.
The newest round of assistance through the Animal Aid Fund helps cover veterinary treatment for dogs currently in their care, ensuring that animals like Simon and George receive the medical support necessary for recovery and adoption.
