An adorable video of a coyote and badger playfully crossing underneath a California highway together is going viral. In the footage, the coyote prances with excitement, as a badger approaches to enter the tunnel with him.
A remote camera, which a research team from the Peninsula Open Space Trust’s Wildlife Research Program monitors, caught the frolicking duo’s friendship. They’ve witnessed thousands of animals while overseeing various cameras throughout the Gilroy, Calif., area, but this particular bond stands out.
“This video of the coyote and badger is one of our favorites,” explained Wildlife Linkages Program Manager Neil Sharma, “and it [has] clearly captured the hearts of people around the world.”
Coyotes and badgers are known to hunt together, according to both legend and scientific evidence, but footage like this is very rare.
