A beloved service dog from the US has died an agonizing death after being deliberately poisoned while staying with her guardian, Leewen Zhang, in Yubei, Chongqing, in southwest China.
Zhang claims that her neighbors deliberately wrapped rat poison in chicken and left it lying on the lawn as bait for her dog, Julie.
After consuming one piece, the sweet and loyal dog began screaming in pain as she vomited and defecated blood. Julie died several hours later, after intense suffering.
Heartbreaking video footage shows Zhang crying and screaming with grief as she embraces the lifeless body of the beautiful dog she had cared for since she was a puppy. The pair had planned to stay in China for a few months before relocating to live in Europe.
Upon trying to file a report with local police, Zhang learned that no action would be taken because there are no laws protecting animals from abuse in China.
Sign this petition urging the Chinese Ambassador to the US, Cui Tiankai, to prosecute those responsible for the suffering and death of this dog and push for the introduction of animal cruelty laws to ensure such shocking acts can be policed appropriately in future.
