“Izzy’s here! Izzy made it!”
The odds were against Izzy, a 9-year-old Bernese mountain dog, ever hearing those words of joy from Jack Weaver, whose family’s home was completely destroyed by California’s recent wildfires.
The family had woken up in the middle of the night to find the neighborhood engulfed in flames. They ran out the door to escape, but Izzy, in a panic, ran the opposite direction and the family was unable to catch her.
The family may have lost their house, but their sorrow was overshadowed by the happy surprise of returning home to find Izzy alive and well. We wish them all the best in rebuilding their lives after this terrible disaster.
GREAT NEWS! — Izzy did what the rest of the family did — everyone ran off BUT in difference directions — the next day, Izzy returns to the only home he knows, as did his humans — everyone knew what to do — WHAT A BEAUTIFUL REUNION!
What I heard on the news was a bit more sinister. It wasn’t that the family could not catch their spooked dog, but, they felt the shelter would not accept Izzy, so they decided to leave her behind (and hope she would survive). I do not know which story is true, but if it’s the latter, in my opinion, the family should have lost custody of Izzy.
Further, I am tired of shelters not accepting pets; especially in times of crises.
Interesting! — I think I agree with you if family decided to leave dog behind — also, as to your comment regarding Shelters, again, I concur.
You do realize, the above facts as per family’s account differs greatly from what you heard
I wonder what the TRUTH is!
I’m so happy for Izzy and her family. With her there, they will find it that bit easier to rebuild their lives.
God bless your family and Izzy- truly the mist important things in Earth.

What a lovely story.
Brava Izzy!! With so many tales of shock and loss, it is wonderful to see a dog who stayed around hoping her people would return. Truly human’s best friends!!
I can’t imagine losing a beloved pet to a fire … just absolutely horrible to contemplate. Losing a home and possessions is heartache enough … beyond enough. I’m so glad this family were reunited with Izzy. There is so little reporting of the actual number of pets, farm animals and wild life affected or who did in the flames.
Having family in Santa Rosa, a city that I love, I cherish any good news.
I’m thrilled Izzy is reunited with her loving family. ❤️
Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m so happy everyone is safe but my first though would be for my family to get out & I would go for Izzy.
They panic & they just run.
Dogs are family.lizzie is back where dhr belongs
What a heartwarmimg story. I’m so glad that Izzy was reunited with her family.
