After being found tied to a rescue van and left with a note in Auckland, New Zealand, a resilient dog named Samuel has finally found his forever home.

The adorable black-and-white puppy with speckled legs was found tied to the rear bumper of an SPCA van, with a bowl of food and water within his reach. The puppy looked lost and confused as he sat tied to the van, in the photo posted by the SPCA.

“A note had been attached to the back of our vehicle asking if we could please take this pup back to SPCA and care for him, because they were no longer able to do that,” SPCA New Zealand wrote in a Facebook post.

After being taken in by the SPCA, Samuel spent several months in their care before meeting his new family. Now, he has a loving forever home and a new dog sibling, and many local fans are eager to dote on him.

“I saw that first photo of him tied to the back of the van, he must’ve been so frightened. He’s such a good boy,” Samuel’s new family said in an update. “He comes out to the cafe everyday where he gets patted and admired. So good for his ego! He loves helping me in the garden, and anywhere I go he likes to be with me.”

Photos of Samuel in his new home show him running alongside his canine sister, Maddie, and curled up cozily on a couch. He grins happily at the camera and looks absolutely thrilled with his new home.

Bringing a dog or other animal companion into your home comes with unconditional love.

Lady Freethinker applauds the New Zealand SPCA, Samuel’s new family, and all those who work tirelessly to find safe, joyful, happy homes for all shelter dogs and cats.
