Four puppies were saved and rehabilitated by a student-run rescue in South Carolina after their guardians requested they be euthanized, according to Count On News 2.
On November 13, 2024, Animal Control informed Colleton County Animal Shelter about four combative, wild, and loose dogs. However, when Animal Control arrived at the scene, they instead found four shy and scared puppies.
Colleton County Animal Shelter was under a lot of strain due to overcrowding and limited resources, making it difficult to properly provide for these puppies. Thankfully, Meowdog Animal Rescue was able to save the day.
Teacher Alex McCarell founded the rescue at Lucy Beckham High School in Mount Pleasant. Students get direct experience with animals where they learn fundamental veterinary skills and tactics for rehabilitation, which prepares the animals for adoption.
Puppies require extensive socialization in their early months. Fortunately, a special quality of Meowdog is the time and attention students devote to the animals.

McCarrell and her students were able to successfully socialize the puppies, who turned into affectionate companions.
“That is one of the things that Meowdog is known for, is how well our animals are socialized, because they are in so many different settings, and they learn a lot of love and trust through our students and community,” said McCarrell. “So, this litter in particular, to go from that terrified to full circle and now they are just love muffins and they run around, and they play, and they are just the happiest sweetest dogs in the world, so it’s just been a huge, 180.”
Three of the four dogs have already found homes and the remaining dog has an adoption that is pending. Lady Freethinker is deeply grateful to Meowdog Animal Rescue for saving these innocent puppies and giving them the happy ending they deserve.
