Last year, a stray dog with a badly burned face was discovered on the streets of Yucatán, Mexico. The suffering he must have endured was unimaginable. It appeared that someone may have deliberately set him on fire.
Found wandering in a small village with no veterinarian, he was withdrawn and displayed fear-based aggression. Fortunately, Beach Dog Rescue of Costa Maya rescued him and brought him to a veterinary hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment sponsored by Lady Freethinker.
The dog, now named Billy, is still in recovery at their 50-acre sanctuary but is doing much better.
“His skin is very slow to heal and still bleeds, but he is finally at a good weight and improving each day,” Heather Johnson of Beach Dog Rescue of Costa Maya told LFT.
Lady Freethinker is immensely grateful for the efforts of Beach Dog Rescue that gave Billy a chance at the life he deserves. Now that he feels safe and happy in his new environment, Billy’s personality has blossomed.

“Superpowers include: impersonating a goose with his bark, insisting he get pets long after the other dogs have fallen asleep, being the most handsome hyena, and making laziness into art,” Johnson joked about Billy’s lighthearted temperament.
No animal should have to endure the agony and helplessness that Billy must have experienced.
We are grateful to our generous supporters whose contributions allow LFT to support amazing on-the-ground rescues like Beach Dog Rescue so we can help save the lives of innocent animals like Billy.
