A stray dog wandering the streets found a happy home at The Philomena retirement community in Kyle, Texas, according to CBS Austin. When a cook who worked at the community found a small, severely matted dog, he reached out to Priscilla Duran, Executive Director of The Philomena — and a known animal lover. Duran got to work trying to find the pup’s home, but as it turns out, his forever home was at the center!

Now lovingly called Chewy, the matted dog quickly became comfortable with the residents of The Philomena. He had a microchip, but after reaching out to his owner and being told they did not want him anymore, the community knew they needed to act fast.

“Taking him to a shelter was never a thought. He was such a good dog, and I knew rehoming him would be easy,” Duran told Lady Freethinker. “ALL of the residents could see how loving he was and deep down we knew he had a bigger purpose… so I agreed that we would all officially adopt him, get his shots, get him groomed, and give him a job as the Community Executive Dog.”

From an unwanted stray to a dog with a title, Chewy’s life has been changed by the residents at The Philomena, and he has changed their lives as well!

“He comes to work every day with SO much excitement to be there. No one can pass him by without getting a huge smile on their face,” Duran shared. “He can turn anyone’s day around. Even after all he’s been through, he adores people.”

LFT applauds the staff and community at The Philomena for welcoming this loving dog and giving him the forever home he deserves.
