A Philadelphia dog who disappeared after being stolen all the way back in 2015 has finally been reunited with his family 11 years later, thanks to a microchip and a shelter scan.

Forty-Cal was one of two dogs taken from a family’s Philadelphia backyard in the city’s Mayfair section in 2015. While one of the dogs was eventually found, Forty-Cal never made it home; and though the family eventually moved to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, they kept his lost pet report active for the years since.

That persistence paid off when the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) found a senior stray dog last weekend and scanned his microchip, which still had up-to-date contact information. The shelter was then able to reach the family and reunite them with the dog, whom they had not seen in more than a decade.

Lady Freethinker is glad this dog finally made it home after so many years apart from the people who loved him. His reunion is a reminder that a microchip can make all the difference when a lost animal is finally found.
