PETITION TARGET: U.S. Congress
Animals deserve justice when they are victims of violence. Recent cases of animal cruelty in the U.S. — like kittens found tossed like garbage in a trash compactor or a family of geese mowed down by a vehicle — show how dire the need is for stronger animal protection laws.
New legislation, the Animal Cruelty Enforcement (ACE) Act, could better protect animals from cruelty. If passed, the bill would create a specific Animal Cruelty Crimes Section at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The staff of this new branch of the DOJ would be dedicated to enforcing animal cruelty laws and making sure those responsible for these heinous acts are fully prosecuted.
“It’s good to have animal cruelty prevention measures on the books, but it’s critical that they are enforced,” Representative Steve Cohen, who helped introduce the bill, said in a press release. “The ACE Act will dedicate a division of the Department of Justice to ensure that happens, preventing cruelty to wild animals, pets and farm animals.”
A unit devoted to animal rights and welfare could thoroughly investigate these events, leaving no stone unturned. Passing this bill would allow the DOJ to put resources into better investigating — and preventing — animal cruelty. Dogs, cats, wild animals, and other animals deserve justice when they’re beaten, starved, maimed, or even murdered.
Sign our petition urging Congress to pass the Animal Cruelty Enforcement (ACE) Act to give the DOJ the ability to better delve into the many animal cruelty cases in our country and finally deliver justice for these innocent creatures.
