UPDATE: We sent our petition, signed by more than 19,000 people, to the Rockford Police Department. Unfortunately, despite multiple checks back, we have never received a response from the police department about what steps they took, if any, to investigate this crime. After receiving a phone call about an abandoned dog at a rental property, Illinois real estate agent Tim Johnson made a shocking discovery: an emaciated pit bull was left by her owner to slowly perish, with no food or water. She appeared to have suffered for weeks, alone and starving.
The skeletal dog, “Lady,” was surrounded by feces and urine, and was so thin that her bones were showing. In an act of desperation, she’d attempted to dig through the wooden floors to escape the solitary prison that would have doubled as her death chamber.
This appalling incident must not be tolerated; pet abandonment is a crime, and there’s simply no excuse for this level of cruelty.
Sign this petition urging the local police department to find the person(s) responsible for this abhorrent crime, hold them accountable to the fullest possible extent of the law, and ensure that they’re never allowed to have an animal again.
