PETITION CLOSED

UPDATE: VICTORY! Ruble’s abuser Jeremy Atkins was sentenced to the maximum allowed: 93 days in jail and $11,015.19 in restitution. Bradley was sentenced to 5 days in jail, 14 days of community service, full restitution for Rumble’s medical bills, no contact with Canine Companions Rescue Center, 2 years probaion, and no owning of animals while on probation. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office and Canine Companions Rescue Center had a bake sale on Nov. 9 to help raise money for Rumble’s medical bills, and their office raised over $1,000.  We applaud Oakland County prosecutors for holding these animal abusers accountable and also for doing what they can to help Ruble!

PETITION TARGET: Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica R. Hooper

A five-week-old puppy in Clarkston, Michigan was found clinging to life in a shockingly savage case of abuse. Suffering from a fractured skull and brain damage caused by blunt force trauma, this tiny puppy was dumped in the bushes and left, covered in maggots, to die in agony.

A resident at Sashabaw Mobile Home Park called Canine Companions Rescue Center, who brought the puppy — now named “Rumble” — to Wilson Veterinary Hospital. Vets didn’t expect Rumble to survive through the night.

Miraculously, the puppy managed to survive. But Rumble now has a long, arduous road to recovery, requiring round-the-clock care from animal neurologists due to his head injuries. Feeding tubes have been inserted into his frail body, since he cannot properly eat.

Police have charged Heather Bradley and Jeremy Atkins — Rumble’s former “guardians” — with mere misdemeanors for this extreme animal cruelty. They are scheduled to appear in the Oakland County District Court on September 17.

Prosecutors must treat this case with the severity it deserves, and make it clear that such animal abuse will not be tolerated. Sign this petition urging Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica R. Hooper to prosecute Rumble’s abusers to the fullest extent of the law, and call for a lifelong ban on either of them ever owning an animal again.
