PETITION TARGET: Florida State Attorney R.J. Larizza, 7th Judicial Circuit
In a horrifying case of neglect in Palatka, Florida, two decomposing, mutilated dogs covered in maggots were found dead, crammed into a single cage in an apartment utility closet, according to local news.
The canines, who had reportedly been deceased for a minimum of one month and starved to death, appeared to have tried to eat one another and their empty bowls in desperation.
Authorities also noted that one dog was so badly decomposed that their breed couldn’t be identified, and the living room and bedroom floors were littered with waste.
The woman allegedly responsible for causing the suffering of these defenseless dogs faces charges of animal cruelty and neglect.
Trapped in filth and left to rot, these innocent dogs died slow, excruciating deaths—without even their dignity spared.
Sign our petition urging Florida State Attorney R.J. Larizza to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law—including mandating intensive psychological intervention and a lifelong ban on having animals.
UPDATE (7/17/2026): The defendant pleaded no contest to felony animal cruelty and received 36 months of probation with no jail or prison time, although she must spend at least 30 days in residential treatment, according to court documents. The sentence also allows her to apply for early termination of probation after 18 months.
Lady Freethinker thanks the 39,000+ individuals who signed our petition to help get justice for these dogs.
