UPDATE (8/28/2023): The defendant’s animal cruelty charge was consolidated into a charge for trafficking heroin, to which he was found guilty and sentenced to 15 to 27 months in prison and 36 months of supervised probation, according to a Pitt County Superior Court clerk. An innocent, mutilated puppy had his ears painfully hacked off and crudely glued back onto his head.
The poor dog was found by the Greenville Police Department’s Gang Unit during a home search, seized, and immediately taken for emergency veterinary care.
“[He] looked as though his ears had been cut off with a pair of scissors, or other sharp instrument,” Greenville Animal Protective Services wrote on Facebook. “Upon an examination, the vet stated it looked as though the dog’s ears were superglued to his temples after they were cut.”
His supposed caretaker, Tony Lopez, faces animal cruelty charges, but was released on a $10,000 bond after being arrested, WITN reported.
Anyone capable of committing such a disgusting act of cruelty must be prevented from harming other animals or humans.
