PETITION TARGET: Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office – Citrus County
A horse was reportedly suffering so severely at a Citrus County, Florida, animal breeding business that a veterinarian determined on-site euthanasia was the most humane option to end the animal’s distress, according to local news.
Investigators later learned that another horse had died weeks earlier and was buried in a shallow grave on the property, while photographs appear to show several horses so thin that their ribs were visibly protruding beneath their skin.
Authorities say they ultimately found nearly 100 animals — horses, goats, sheep, and more — on the property, with many allegedly suffering from malnutrition, untreated health problems, and poor living conditions.
So far, 13 horses were discovered in conditions serious enough to warrant felony animal cruelty charges, with further charges possible pending evaluations of the remaining animals.
The apparent suffering and scale of neglect uncovered in this case are deeply disturbing, and prosecutors must pursue penalties that reflect the seriousness of the harm inflicted to help prevent similar cruelty in the future.
Sign our petition urging the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law — including mandating intensive psychological intervention and a ban on having animals.
