PETITION TARGET: Riverside County District Attorney Michael A. Hestrin
A Canada goose was found tragically suffering with dire injuries, discarded as trash in a dumpster, in Palm Desert, California.
Security footage, taken the prior day, at a country club allegedly showed a man in a golf cart pursuing two geese, running one over, hitting the injured bird with a golf club, and tossing the goose in a dumpster, according to NBC Palm Springs.
The following morning, a resident found the severely injured bird, who injured so severely that they had to be mercifully euthanized.
“Geese are wonderful animals, like ducks, they mate for life,” a man told NBC Palm Springs. “So in all likelihood, this…mate is mournfully looking for his or her mate to come home.”
This vulnerable goose did not deserve to be senselessly attacked and left to suffer in a dumpster alone overnight. Canada geese are sentient beings worthy of respect — and they are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
A man was reportedly arrested for animal cruelty. We are calling for justice for this innocent goose and to help prevent future cruelty to animals.
