PETITION TARGET: Shivamogga Wildlife Division
An elephant named Bhanumati who was 18 months pregnant recently had her tail brutally cut off in the Sakrebyle Elephant Camp in Karnataka, India.
After staff reportedly allowed the elephant to graze unsupervised, they noticed blood spattered on the ground and found that half an inch of the elephant’s tail had been severed, likely with a sharp-edged weapon and full force, according to DaijiWorld — leaving the soon-to-be mother bleeding and in pain.
The severed portion of the tail has reportedly been stitched back on and treated, according to Latestly — but it’s critical that whoever hurt this elephant is found and held accountable.
While an investigation into this atrocity must occur, Lady Freethinker is extremely concerned about the general welfare of all elephants in the Sakrebyle Elephant Camp.
Our investigations have found that elephants have suffered under horrific conditions at this popular tourist destination — including elephants wearing heavy chains while tourists “bathed” them, an elephant with an infected wound on his face, and multiple elephants with abscesses on their bodies.
This exploitation must stop. Bhanumati, and all the elephants held at this camp, deserve justice and safety.
Sign this petition to urge the Divisional Forest Office to use all resources available to find and hold accountable Bhanumati’s abuser and to ensure that all animals are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
