Dozens of innocent hamsters were allegedly viciously stomped to death during horrific massacres in Takizawa, Japan. In total, over 50 vulnerable hamsters were reportedly killed during two incidents at “love hotels” — rooms available for hourly rental by couples seeking privacy — according to the New York Post.
In the first occurrence, 25 hamsters were allegedly killed, including some who were crushed underfoot. About 30 more were allegedly killed weeks later. Both events were allegedly filmed, according to IBTimes UK.
Investigators found videos and messages planning the alleged cruelty on a seized phone. One ominous message quoted in the New York Post asked where they would kill the hamsters “and have fun.”
These animals depended on people for care, not cruelty or entertainment. No animal should be treated as disposable or made to suffer for entertainment.
A man was indicted in connection with the first incident and later arrested again in connection with the second. One woman was referred to family court, while another was arrested.
This alleged cruelty must be taken seriously under Japan’s animal welfare laws.
