PETITION TARGET: First Judicial Circuit Court Prosecutor

Three beloved companion dogs suffered unbearable heat, agony, and death after being intentionally locked in a hot car, without food or water, for three days in Escambia County, Florida, according to the NY Post.

The dogs’ guardian left town for several days and entrusted her dogs’ care to her father, leaving him with food, water, and everything they would need for a comfortable stay. But instead of protecting them, the man reportedly locked them inside his Toyota Camry for three days when temperatures hit higher than 90 degrees.

At those scalding temperatures, the inside of a car can reach up to 138 degrees within 90 minutes—which is hotter than any temperature ever recorded on the planet.

“You can imagine the suffering they probably went through,” said Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, who added the man apparently committed the act “knowing full well that they would not survive.”

Authorities have arrested Felton Henderson, who was booked into the Escambia County jail on animal cruelty charges but released after posting a $45,000 bail.

Intentionally locking defenseless dogs inside a hot car, for any length of time, is an atrocious act of cruelty, and the person responsible must be held fully accountable for his actions.

Sign our petition urging prosecutors with the First Judicial Circuit Court to treat this fatal act of cruelty with the severity it deserves, including any needed intervention services and restitution for the innocent lives lost.
